English is an international language. It is used all over the world either as the first language or a second language. In short, English has become a universal language due to its utility value. English is a compulsory language in our country(Sri Lanka) too, because we are also a part of the global village. There are several reasons which improve the value of English as a language in our country( Sri Lanka).
Sri Lanka need English for their higher education because many courses are conducted in English in higher educational institutes like universities and college of educations. Therefore, there is a great necessity for them to learn English. In the present world, the job market is very competitive. Finding a job is not an easy task as the job market is very competitive in our country too. Those who are well versed in English are given the priority when selecting candidates for jobs in both public and private sectors. English plays a significant role in the field of international relations as well. For the purpose of international commerce and trade English is very important. Computer literacy is a must in the modern world. For learning computer English is very essential.
When considering all above reasons, it is easy to understand the importance of English in the modern World. Every one of the country must determine to learn English and to obtain the utmost benefits that can be gained through it.
